Making Progress : Rethinking State and School District Policies

I am a technology teacher and a strong believer that we need to find a place for mobile devices in the classroom. However, as a union delegate member I do have fears that mobile devices can be used to record classroom issues. I was elected to protect and represent the union members. If a student decides to record a video and blast it on Youtube, the effect can be disastrous. They need to work on an app that registers the devices once the students enter the classroom. It can then deactivate camera and microphone functions as well as other specific functions. Once the students leave, the app disengages. I might actually start working on that.

  1. Seems to me that more energy is spent trying to prevent students from recording what is happening in the classroom. That same energy could be focused on providing engaging lessons that we would be proud to share....

  2. Its unfortunate but true these days. A whole lesson could brought to a halt if a student pulls out a phone. There is a nationwide witch hunt on teachers. I am one of the latest victims. I was recently removed from my school and placed in a reassignment center. I don't have any charge but know the principal was looking for anything on me. I don't do anything that is inappropriate, but no one wants to be recorded. We need to find a happy medium.
